I Am America

The nation is tiring of the present administration and its “King” as well as many of his cronies staff.  More people are thinking of voting out the incumbents this next election because of the “changes” we are getting.  Many are even leaning to the Republican way of thinking believing it can’t be any worse!  The conservatism slant is part of the Tea Party ideals.  Along comes this young woman with the name of Krista Branch.  She’s released a song, you guessed it, “I Am America” also about the Tea Party.  The lyrics are further below.  Enjoy!

“I Am America” lyrics:
Pay no attention to the people in the street
Crying out for accountability
Make a joke of what we believe
Say we don’t matter ’cause you disagree
Pretend you’re kings, sit on your throne
Look down your nose at the peasants below

I’ve got some news, we’re taking names
We’re waiting now for the judgment day

I am America, one voice, united we stand
I am America, one hope to heal our land

There is still work that must be done
I will not rest until we’ve won

I am America

You preach your tolerance, but lecture me
Is there no end to your own hypocrisy
Your god is power, you have no shame
Your only interest is political gain

You hide your eyes and refuse to listen
You play your games and abuse the system
You stuff your pockets while Rome is burning
I’ve got a feeling that the tide is turning

I will not give up on this fight
I will not fade into the light, I am America

You stuff your pockets while Rome is burning
I’ve got a feeling that the tide is turning

I am America, one voice, united we stand
I am America, one hope to heal our land

I will not give up on this fight
I will not fade into the light, I am America

An update on the Arlington Cemetery fiasco

Appears the ongoing investigation into the total screw-up at Arlington National Cemetery involving the true locations and names of the deceased interred there will involve a lot more graves than first thought, at least according to Sen. Claire McCaskill (D) who is on the subcommittee investigating the potential contracting fraud there. The article mentioned here can be found at Military.Com located here

This is a message from an appalled observer

This is a message from an appalled observer, forwarded on by my brother:

SHALL WE HIRE A MONUMENT ENGRAVER TO GO TO THE WORLD WAR II MEMORIAL AND ADD THE MISSING WORDS?

Today I went to visit the new World War II Memorial in Washington , DC. I got an unexpected history lesson. Because I’m a baby boomer, I was one of the youngest in the crowd. Most were the age of my parents, Veterans of  ‘the greatest war,’ with their families.

It was a beautiful day, and people were smiling and happy to be there. Hundreds of us milled around the memorial, reading the inspiring words of Eisenhower and Truman that are engraved there.  On the Pacific side of the memorial, a group of us gathered to read the words President Roosevelt used to announce the attack on Pearl Harbor: “Yesterday, December 7, 1941 –a date which will live in infamy–the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked.”

One elderly woman read the words aloud:  “With confidence in our armed forces, with the abounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph.”  But as she read, she was suddenly turned angry. “Wait a minute,” she said, “they left out the end of the quote. They left out the most important part. Roosevelt ended the message with ‘so help us God.'”

Her husband said, “You are probably right.  We’re not supposed to say things like that now.”

“I know I’m right,” she insisted. “I remember the speech.”  The two looked dismayed, shook their heads sadly and walked away.

Listening to their conversation, I thought to myself, ‘Well, it has been over 50 years; she’s probably forgotten.’  But she had not forgotten. She was right.. so help us God”.   I went home and pulled out the book my book club is reading — “Flags of Our Fathers” by James Bradley. It’s all about the battle at Iwo Jima .

The people who edited out that part of the speech when they engraved it on the memorial could have fooled me.  I was born after the war!  But they couldn’t fool the people who were there.  Roosevelt ‘s words are engraved on their hearts.

People today are trying to change the history of America by leaving God out of it, but the truth is, God has been a part of this nation, since the beginning.  He still wants to be…and He always will be!

I have noticed this more in the present administration than before, the emphasis on the separation of Church and State. Maybe it is only me.  Is it only a matter of time until they need a “new currency” without the words, “In God We Trust”?  What with the removing of His name from memorials, documents of our country, the escalating crime, the failing economy and the ever-increasing violence, maybe a little more faith in Him might be in order about now!  What do you think?

Racists?

I spotted this article by Robert at “American and Proud” and like him, I too am very tired of the Libs using the Racist tag on anything or anyone that thinks differently than the Obama clan.  Robert opens with this line. . .  “So the Tea party is ‘Racist’ because we disagree with Obama…But the 95% of BLACK folks that voted FOR Obama BECAUSE he is BLACK are not RACIST…”.  Typical from a party where their motto should more accurately be, “Don’t do as I do, do as I say.”  Go ahead and check out this article on his blog here at American and Proud.net.

For those of us who get “Senior Moments”

Come on now, admit it.  You’ve had some of those moments too haven’t you?  Walk into the next room and don’t remember why you’re there?  Go into the store and forgot the items you went in to buy in the first place?  I know I have them occasional lapse in memory moments, but I have an excuse.  After all, I had a stroke in 2005 and it has nothing to do with the fact that I’m over 60 now, right?  Anyway, here is a little musical number by comedian Mack Dryden that those of us that have had those Senior Moments might hit home.  It is also funny.  Find it here and please enjoy!

Don’t scour your bathtub!

Or to be more accurate, don’t use scouring powder in your bathtub and/or shower.  I’m responding to a question on how to get out dirt or soap stains in a steel bathtub.  Evidently it has got worse over the years and she wanted to know how to remove them once and for all.  Well, as “for all” the only sure way is to remove the offending tub or shower!  Problem cured!

Now joking aside, most people would try to use scouring powders such as “Ajax”, “Comet” or a similar brand first thing.  Let me be the first to tell you, don’t!  Once you initially use a scouring powder in your fiberglass or enameled steel tub or shower, it will be clean and shiny . . . for a while.  But you are literally “scratching” or “etching” the sealed surface with these abrasive cleansers.  This now rougher surface allows future dirt, grime and soap film to more easily adhere to the bathtub or shower surface.  Whereas the tub/shower might be difficult to clean now, any future cleaning will be even more difficult than what it was before!  So stay away from scouring powders!

Well then, what can you use to clean them?  I like baking soda with water followed by a rubbing alcohol and water mix spray on the walls after each shower.  Some like cleaning with bleach diluted with water.  Others like ammonia with water, just remember not to mix the two!  Google fiberglass or enameled steel cleaners and you will get a number of methods that you can try.

As a last note, I understand that Comet and other companies have come out with a non-abrasive version of their products, claiming they won’t scratch fiberglass and the like.  Not having tried these products I can’t verify their statements.  I have used products to “seal” and thereby smooth the fiberglass surface after a thorough cleaning and they do work quite well though.  Most are like and apply the same way as your auto paste wax.  Wipe or rub it in, allow to dry to a haze, than buff it off.  For best protection I like the paste wax, but an aerosol spray version is also available.  The protection is noticeable because the water beads and runs off similar to your car.  It will last from six months to a year depending on the number of people using the shower and so on.

Oh, and you people with tiled tubs surrounds, don’t forget to reseal your grout annually also.  Just be sure to clean the area first and keep the silicone sealer on the grout and not on the tile.  Hint: If you don’t clean the surround before sealing it, you will be sealing in the dirt! Making it impossible to remove the dirt afterward.

SSgt Tim Chambers Honors Vets

Okay.  I admit it!  Seeing SSgt Tim Chambers honoring veterans during Rolling Thunder 2010 by holding a salute over six hours definitely brought a tear to my eyes.  Even though his salute got a little shaky at times, he held it for six and one-half hours!

This first video shows him near the intersection as the motorcycles rode past on either side of him.  Some returning his salute as they rode by, some stopping to stand and return it.  And still he maintains it, for six years in a rowHere is the first video of him.   The second video is him giving the explanation to why he does it. Find it here.
