Show your appreciation to the Veterans!

This is kind of last-minute as I’ve worked at helping our fellow Veterans and their families in need by way of collecting donations for Buddy Poppies at the local Fred Meyer.  I’ve done this for the last two weekends and on Veteran’s Day I will also be attending the Ceremony at the Veteran’s Gateway at the Washington Country Fairgrounds to further help my VFW Post #2666.  I hope many of you will be there to see the VFW Color Guard in action; it takes place again on November 11th at 11:00 AM.

For those of you unable to attend, but you’ll still be out and about, Give Thanks to all the Veterans you meet this day.  They will appreciate your thanks and support!  To those of you who plan on staying at home to watch the games, take a break at half-time and go out and Thank a few yourself!  The Veterans gave of themselves in time, lives and their health for you, it is the least you can do for them.

To my brothers in uniform, whether now or sometime in the past I can only say this to them all . . . THANK YOU, BROTHERS AND SISTERS!!  And you will always be in my thoughts forever for your sacrifice and love of country!

Bless All of You and may you be in His favor always.

Captain Larry James Hanley has come home!

Captain Larry James Hanley, a MIA Vietnam Vet has come home!  I would like to welcome home another brother from “across the pond”.  He’s originally an US Air Force Jet Engine Mechanic from Walla Walla, Washington.
For some more background on the man, see the webpage here at the Union-Bulletin.com website.  For more information on his posthumous promotion to Major and of his funeral, please see the webpage here, also at the Union-Bulletin.com website.
It warms my heart every time I hear of another “brother-in-arms” coming home to finally receive the long-awaited peaceful rest he so rightly deserves.  May the good Lord receive him unto his fold and watch over him until once again he is reunited with his family in the hereafter.
Welcome home my Brother,

“No Soliciting” signs

“No Soliciting”  That’s pretty straight forward isn’t it?  I thought they would also be very easy to understand.  Or at least to the normally educated person it should be.  I was mistaken. Since I’ve posted two of these signs near my front door, I’ve had three people knocking on my door trying to “sell” me something.

Two of them “just happened to be in the area” and wanted to tell me about their “great products”.  Lawn aeration for one and a new replacement roof for the other.  The third one stopped by today.

The conversation went like this:

Salesman:  “Hi.  I just happened to be in your neighborhood on another job and I thought I would stop and introduce myself to all the neighbors.”

Me:  (Seeing that he is also holding one of those doorknob-hanging advert cards in his hand with the words,”Special Offer” in big print on it)  “What are you selling?”

Salesman:  “Oh I’m not selling anything!”

Me:  “Glad to hear it, good-bye!”

Salesman:  “No. Wait! I wanted to tell you about . . . “

Me:  I point at one of the two “No Soliciting” signs then again say, “Good-bye”.

Salesman:  “But I’m not soliciting!”

Me:  “If you’re pushing a product, a business, a political party, a religion or asking for donations for your own cause; that’s soliciting.”

Salesman:  “That’s not soliciting. You don’t even know the legal meaning of soliciting!”

Me:  “At my door, that is my definition which is all that matters!  Besides, you’re not much of a sales rep if you constantly argue with your prospective customers now are you?”

Salesman:  “But I’m not soliciting.”

Me:  “Then what are you doing?”

Salesman:  “Well we’re just trying to get our name ‘out there’.”

Me:  “So it’s your business you’re pushing. That’s soliciting, good-bye.”

Salesman:  “But that’s not the legal definition of soliciting.”

Me:  “Next time you’re ‘just in the area’, do two things first, would you?”

Salesman:  “What are they?”

Me:  “One, look up soliciting in the Dictionary and then two, look up the “Green River Ordinance”. We abide by it in our community. Good-bye!”

Then I closed the door. Now all of this has caused me to wonder, if these people are really lacking in a proper education or are they just acting stupid and believe some garbage their supervisor is telling them?  We may never know . . . .

Social Networks Barred

What do all these social networks have in common?

Goggle Docs, Instagram, Photobucket, Picasa, SmugMug, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, MySpace, LinkedIn.

Answer?  I don’t and won’t use any of them!  I am so tired of forever getting lists, posts and invites from all these sites!  Got so bad I’ve already Blacklisted some from my emails and will do more soon.  When will people begin to realize that “socializing” online isn’t very social at all.  How many of your hundreds of “friends” do you have that are truly friends?  Offline?  See what I mean?

So do yourself a big favor.  Shut off that computer, smart-phone or what ever you use to connect with the internet and walk next door or across the street and meet your neighbors.  Better yet, with Summer coming on, invite them over for a neighborhood barbecue!  Believe me, they will make better friends than the “like” on the computer.  And it won’t wear out your thumbs!

Pro-Pot Group Criticized Over Use of VFW Name & POW Flag

How many other brothers-in-arms were mad enough to spit nails? Weren’t it enough to p__s off the pope? Not only for devaluing the Veteran’s Of Foreign Wars Organization for what it has done for our Veterans, but for the earned respect for the POW-MIA Flag that many of our citizens show honor to daily.  To be treated as such!  Degraded just to promote drugs and there use. The article is from Military.Com and the first article HERE raised such a ruckus with the populace that they decided to back off a bit.  The second story from the same website tells us about that located HERE.  So what do you all think about this?

Idiots Posing As Parents

Well I thought there were enough idiots in the world as it was, but now a sorry excuse for parents brand their children as if they were some sort of fence to be tagged with their graffiti and calling it art!  All right, many people like tattoos and as adults they have the right to deface what the Good Lord gave them in any way they want.  I have no problem with this whatsoever.  But to put their children through this painful process without any consideration for the child is akin to child abuse and it should be treated as such!  Including the filing of charges by Children Protective Services.

What’s going to happen when the child is older and realizes that a good majority of the population doesn’t have these crude markings with the garish colors on them?  One would think that once this phase/fad falls out of fashion at some point in the future, that the child might be a little angry at his/her parents for using them as a human target for their graffiti now. Wouldn’t it be wiser to leave them unblemished so to speak and let them decide for themselves at a later date if they want it or not?  And just go get the parents a box of Sidewalk Chalk instead for now. See some samples of this atrocious behavior here.

Just a thought.
